Hello from Nancy Farnham!

I am running for the House of Representatives because I care about North Dakota and its people. I believe that I can bring respect and compassion for all people, common sense, and a strong work ethic to this office. Service to others is what my life has been about and I am ready to serve in our state legislature.

Nancy Farnham

My Story

Nancy Farnham has been a resident of Enderlin for the past 32 years. She and her husband, Tom, a retired Enderlin High School teacher, have two grown sons, Zach and Sam (Rachel) and one granddaughter, Libby-Jo. Service to others is what Nancy’s life has been about. Nancy had a 40 year career in health care, serving the chronically ill and the elderly. Her career began when she worked as a nurses’ aide at a nursing home while attending college. After graduating, she became the first registered and board certified music therapist in N.D. in 1981. Nancy later became a licensed social worker, and then became a licensed nursing home administrator, working the last 27 years of her career as the administrator at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin before retiring in 2019. Volunteerism has also always been important to Nancy. She has multiple volunteer roles in her church and community (including currently serving on the Enderlin Community Development Committee, Enderlin Area Food Pantry, and the Enderlin Endowment Fund) and enjoys music, theater, art, and the great outdoors.

Nancy cares about North Dakota and its people. If elected, she is committed to working hard to find common ground with other legislators for the betterment of our whole state. She will also commit to being accessible to people and will communicate with constituents frequently. Some of her major focus areas would be:

1. Accessible health care that is responsive to the needs of all people including quality long term care, mental health service, suicide prevention programs, nutritional care, and addition services,

2. A strong public K-12 education program that ensures we have educational staff who are sufficiently trained, valued, and supported in their work,

3. Support for childcare services and other programs that help young families get established and flourish, and

4. Safe communities for all people, especially those who are vulnerable in our society.

Nancy Farnham’s Platform

Public Education: A strong public education system including increased teacher salaries, free school lunches for all, and property tax reform that keeps school funding in local control.

Accessible Healthcare: Accessible healthcare for all people that respects personal choice, provides for seniors and veterans, and increases the availability of mental health, substance abuse, and suicide prevention programs.

Families: Programs to help families flourish including quality, affordable childcare, a living wage, paternity and maternity leaves, and safe communities.

Whether it’s knocking doors, making phone calls, or hosting events for local and statewide candidates like me, District 24 is stronger with volunteers.

The challenge to maintain our roads and bridges will not go away. It will clearly have to be a very high priority as we approach the 2021 legislative session. Yes, the cost to maintain the system of roads and bridges statewide is high. I suggest that the greater cost is not making that investment. When we do to not invest the necessary dollars in maintaining our roads, we often find that we end up with a much higher cost in the replacement of those roads. Our farmers and ranchers are dependent on these roads. The safety of our folks living in rural North Dakota is at stake. Our children ride in school buses that use these roadways. This is an investment that we must make.
